What Style of Photography Suits Your Restaurant?

Understanding the kind of photo style you want to achieve for your brand can be overwhelming, confusing or you can just be straight up unsure.

There are many ways to highlight your brand and venue through photography styles. Here’s my style guide for how I approach food photography.

First things first…

Brainstorm a little bit about how you want to be received by potential customers. What is your venue’s atmosphere like? Is it fine dining or more on the casual side?

Do you want to highlight your mixologist’s amazing cocktails, paired with tapas? Or, just want to sell a really comforting home-made style meal?

You don’t have to limit yourself, but understanding the message you want to portray is a great start to choosing your aesthetic. Now, these are four groups of styles I shoot:

LIGHT & AIRY

Usually with white, clean backgrounds Light & Airy allows your food to be even more colourful and vibrant.

This style also has a more casual tone, perfect for cafes, take-away friendly or maybe you’re a fancy place who offers a lunch special? These aren’t set in stone rules, but rather how the images may come across.

DARK & MOODY

Sophisticated, stylish and chic - these are the three words that come to mine when I look at the ‘Dark & Moody’ portfolio. It doesn’t just capture the food, it captures the atmosphere and ambiance.

Restaurants and bars with a more ‘nightlife’ presence usually go for this style to sell that vibe.

FUN & CREATIVE

Portraying your brand in a light-hearted, cheeky tone is a great way to be approachable. Vibrant, colourful and energetic, this style is fun. Using a bold colour palette, you can really allow your brand, product and venue to pop.

NATURAL LIGHT & LIFESTYLE

Timeless, classic, neutral palette - these photos allow to food shine simply and elegantly. Utilising natural spaces, lighting and natural colour palette, this style creates a neutral look that stays on trend. Simple, but effective.

These aren’t the ONLY way to style photos, please feel free to reach out and contact me with your vision, your goals or if you just want more information via my contact form.
